Kvutzat Yavne, located between the cities of Ashdod and Yavne, is a cooperative kibbutz and considered the “Mother of religious kibbutzim” and one of the most economically established kibbutzim. Many Israelis are familiar with the name “Kvutzat Yavne” as it’s on most supermarket shelves in the form of canned and preserved pickles and olives brand. Along with their successful canning plant, Kvutzat Yavne boasts an active and vibrant multi-generational community that strives to live according to the values of Torah and work, personal contribution, partnership, charity and equality.
Kvutzat Yavne has a visitors center that offers a tour of the Kibbutz’s Adi watch factory, a tour of the canning factory store with a modern oil press that produces extra virgin olive oil, and finally a visit to the solar farm.
And when it comes to conservation, when the factory moved from its old location to the new building, there was a discussion between the kibbutz committees as to what they should do with the old factory building – demolish it or preserve it? We hope they preserved it (they’re experts in preserving, after all) and turned their original canning factory into a museum.
