Kibbutz Yad Mordechai, located near the city of Ashkelon and 4km north of the border with Gaza. The kibbutz is currently evacuated.
During the surprise attack on Israel in October 2023, the kibbutz was attacked by squads of Hamas terrorists riding motorcycles and atop a Toyota van. The kibbutz’s standby squad, together with reinforcements from the “Magav” squad, managed to prevent them from entering the kibbutz and held out until the “Yamam” force arrived, which killed the terrorists and captured one of them. No casualties were reported from the kibbutz.
Prior to the war, Kibbutz Yad Mordechai was one of the leading kibbutzim in the kibbutz tourism industry. Kibbutz Yad Mordechai Tourism offers a wide variety of attractions, including its Yad Mordechai honey and Bee House where you can visit along with a variety of experiential attractions.
Kibbutz Yad Mordechai also serves as a commemoration of the power and daring of the Jewish people throughout the years. On a hill overlooking the kibbutz to the south, stands is a huge bronze statue of Mordechai Anielewicz, the leader of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, after which the kibbutz is named.
On the kibbutz you’ll find the “From Holocaust to Resurrection” Museum, heritage sites that include a site that reconstructs the 1948 “Tashach” battle and an “Operation Baby” monument where dozens of the kibbutz’s children survived the War of Independence, a museum of the “old kibbutz”, a small art gallery called the “Dana Art Gallery“, and sculptures of farmers in the early days of the state.
