Kibbutz Revivim is located in the Negev desert in southern Israel.
In the late 1930s, the land on which Kibbutz Revivim is currently situated was purchased by Jews from South Africa, mediated by Bedouin from the Al-Azazma tribe. The buyers then donated the lands to the JNF. In 1938 the “Revivim” group was founded near the city of Rishon Lezion.
In 1943, the kibbutz settled on the purchased lang and became the southernmost kibbutz at the time, where it is today, but its name was “Tel Tsofim” as one of the three viewpoints in the Negev. These kibbutzim were called “viewpoints” to circumvent British law for the prohibition of the establishment of new kibbutzim.
Today there are about 1,000 residents, of which almost 300 children enjoying a life in the desert.
The kibbutz is almost completely collective and makes a living from tourism, agriculture, industrial plants, dairy farm, museum, event venue and more. Agriculture includes the olive groves irrigated with local brackish water. The olive oil has won several awards. There is a large dairy farm that won the prize for the largest quantity of milk produced by any farm in Israel. There is also a chicken hatchery and a fish farm.
Did you know that former Prime Minister, the late Golda Meir, had an apartment on Kibbutz Revivim while she was in office? Her daughter, Sara Rahabi, was a kibbutz member and thanks to this Golda received a quiet apartment in the kibbutz.
