Kibbutz Nir Am is located in southern Israel, near the city of Sderot. The kibbutz is currently evacuated.
On October 7, 2023, the Battle of Nir Am took place as part of the surprise attack on Israel. During the battle, terrorists belonging to the terrorist organization Hamas stormed Kibbutz Nir Am adjacent to Sderot with the aim of massacring the residents of the kibbutz and kidnapping them to the Gaza Strip. The kibbutz’s standby squad engaged in a battle with the terrorists and managed to stop them, after assistance from the border guard forces and the Golani brigade. There were no casualties among the kibbutz members.
Kibbutz Nir Am is not just on the map, it is on the map of almost every table in Israel. The kibbutz’s factory, “Michsaf” (Made of Silver), produces cutlery and a variety of pots, gastronomes and kitchen utensils. On the other hand, in Nir Am’s dining hall, there are no more tablecloths and you do not need quality homemade cutlery. The food probably didn’t meet the high standard of the cutlery and the members stopped eating there.
After standing abandoned for years, the dining hall received a facelift and became a shared, designed, modern and pampering work space.
The old dining hall, now called Southup, offers offices for entrepreneurs and high-tech companies, and an open-space space for working together.
Kibbutz Nir Am’s economy is based of a variety of fields – there is also a dairy barn, field crops, an orchard, kibbutz country lodge and a local pub called the Green Pub.
