Kibbutz Nahshon, a small kibbutz south of Modiin, got its name from Operation Nachshon, whose goal during the War of Independence was to break through to Jerusalem. Today, the kibbutz’s factory, Aran, is among other things, involved in innovative and technological breakthroughs in the field of plastic packaging. For instance, in medicine and the fight against Covid-19, the bags of Kibbutz Nahshon are an essential component in bag-based respirator machines. The bags are used in breathalyzer devices and even as a material for protective clothing for hospital staff.
The main use of Aran bags is for liquids, such as those that contain the wine in boxes (so popular in Europe in particular and in the world in general). And with that being said, Kibbutz Nahshon’s bags are an example of creative thinking inside the box.
At the Sorek Winery on Kibbutz Nahshon, people still prefer to sip wine from the bottle rather than from a box. The winery is open to visitors and also serves as a wine school. The kibbutz also has a stained glass studio that produces works of art in glass and is also open to guests.
The kibbutz has a particularly impressive sculpture garden made entirely of barbed wire fences and a tent that looks like it’s made of fabric – but don’t mistake, it’s all concrete.
