Kibbutz Holit is located in the south-west of Israel near the border with the Gaza Strip. The kibbutz is currently evacuated.
On October 7, 2023, terrorists infiltrated Kibbutz Holit at approximately eight in the morning, went from house to house in the kibbutz, murdered 15 of the kibbutz’s residents, and wounded many more. In addition, two foreign workers were murdered (Kibbutz Holit massacre).
The kibbutz was founded in 1977 in the sands of the Sinai Peninsula and hence its name “Holit” which means sand in Hebrew.
Five years later, in 1982, after the peace agreement with Egypt and the withdrawl from the Sinai peninsula, Kibbutz Holit was moved to its current locations on one of the hottest borders in recent years.
Still, Kibbutz Holit was able to establish a diverse and cohesive community, continuing over the years to absorb new families from all over the country.
