Kibbutz Gevim is located in the south of Israel, in the northwest of the Negev desert near the city of Sderot. The kibbutz economy is based on agriculture, but the most impressive growth in the area surrounding Kibbutz Gevim is not measured by produce but by wisdom.
On Kibbutz Gevim’s land, the Sha’ar Hanegev Education Campus was established, which grew and grew (and grew) and today includes an elementary school, high school and Sapir College with all its departments. There is also a hydrotherapy pool, a dance studio and a music conservatory. That is, on normal days, about 10,000 people come to develop and grow on the fringes of Gevim. The residents of the kibbutz also enjoy being within walking distance of education, culture, sports and various enrichment classes.
No wonder that in the heart of the kibbutz another real institution has sprung up that also deals with deepening of the collective wisdom – The Publament (Pub and Parliament).
For over two decades, on Friday afternoons, hundreds of residents of the area come to The Publament on Kibbutz Gevim to meet distinguished guests who talks to the residents about current affairs.
Kibbutz Gevim used to have the “Zamir” flute factory, which produced quality wooden flutes and closed a few years ago when it could not compete with the plastic flutes whistling from China.
