Kibbutz Elifaz is located in the Arava valley, near Eilat, in the far south of Israel. The kibbutz was established in 1983 as a secular cooperative kibbutz by the Hashomer Hatzair. Kibbutz Elifaz is located 20 minutes north of Eilat on the outskirts of Timna Park.
In 2012 Kibbutz Elifaz became the first kibbutz in Israel to accept Druze residents; Haza and Nibal Tafesh were unanimously approved as full-fledged members, making them the first Druze in Israel to join a kibbutz.
In 2014, the solar energy developer Arava Power Company inaugurated six solar fields in the Arava and Negev, generating a total of 36 megawatts of electricity. One of these solar fields is in Kibbutz Elifaz.
Starting in 2016, Kibbutz Elifaz took its first steps as a privatized kibbutz, allowing members to grow and develop and open its doors to absorb new members. The kibbutz’s economy is based mainly on the date plantations, pomelo orchards, a farm for growing medical herbs and tourism.
