Kibbutz Dvir, located north of Be’er Sheva, is commonly called Kibbutz Dvir, but its official name is Kibbutz Dvira – which makes it the only transgender kibbutz in the world! The reason is that the place where the kibbutz is located has previously been identified as the biblical city of Dvir. But, because the identification is questionable, the government naming committee decided to call the Kibbutz Dvira (i.e., on the way to Dvir).
The residents insist on using the unofficial name and there were even cases that they deleted the letter “A” from the signpost at the entrance to the kibbutz.
In addition to a partnership with the the neighboring kibbutz, Lahav, in the Dolev plastic factory, in Kibbutz Dvir there is a dairy farm, chicken coops, field crops and more. In the 1980’s, the kibbutz developed the then most popular Hebrew word processor called Q-Text.
