Kibbutz Bror Hayil is located in the south of Israel, near the city of Sderot. The kibbutz is currently evacuated.
With the launch of Hamas’s surprise attack on 07.10.23, alarms were sounded throughout the kibbutz and the entire area. Terrorists arrived at the entrance to the kibbutz but turned around and drove to the nearby city of Sderot where they carried out a brutal massacre.
It is said that the Children of Israel (Bnei Yisrael) walked in the desert for 40 years and settled in the only place in the entire region without oil… except for the children of Beror Chayil. Some of the founding members of Kibbutz Bror Hayil immigrated from Egypt and some from Brazil and in June 1957, when an oil jet burst from the “Bror 2” well, Kibbutz Bror Hayil became the Saudi Arabia of the kibbutzim (It is not known how much they actually benefited from it, but black gold certainly flowed there). In 1965, the “Bror” well, together with the nearby Heletz and Kochav wells, supplied 10% of Israel’s oil consumption.
But since the oil wells dried up, Kibbutz Bror Hayil has mostly boasted the title of the largest Brazilian kibbutz in the world.

The Brazilian spirit flows through every pathway of the kibbutz and is also embraced by the many of the kibbutz members who were born in Israel and have never been to Brazil.
