Kibbutz Lehavot Haviva (“The Flames of Haviva”) is located in the center of Israel near the Green Line, and not far from Hadera. The kibbutz is named after Haviva Reik, a paratrooper from a nearby kibbutz, Maanit, who volunteered and set out to the Czechoslovak Republic during WWII, to help and assist Jews who remained there. Before leaving, she said, “We must parachute into this Europe like a mother breaking into a burning home to save her children”.
And thus, from the flames of the Holocaust, a group of boys and girls in the forests of Slovakia decided to establish a pioneering fulfillment battalion bearing Haviva’s name and expressed their commitment to follow her guide. To this day, the spirit of volunteerism and survival are prominent features in the community.

In the late 1990s, Kibbutz Lehavot Haviva was on the verge of an economic collapse following the great crisis that befell many kibbutzim in the movement and brought with it a deep economic crisis, a shortage of young people and empty children’s homes. The community decided to absorb dozens of families into full memberships, tripled its demographic power, filled the education system with hundreds of children and is now vigorously engaged in community, social and volunteer activities following the tradition the kibbutz was founded on.
The old clinic became a library and a community culture club, and the popular regional pub of the 1990s was replaced by a community pub called the “Paratrooper Pub” run by members of the kibbutz for the benefit of the community. On weekends, music and culture lovers from all over the area come to watch live performances at the renowned Barele Music Club, located in the kibbutz’s old dining room.
