Kibbutz Karmia is located in the south of Israel between Ashkelon and Gaza. The kibbutz is currently evacuated.
In 1972 the kibbutz began manufacturing quality blankets and “Karmia Blankets” became a very well-known brand. Although the factory was sold, over the years the community has continued to provide a warm and welcoming “blanket” to groups in need of support.
In 2005, after the evacuation of the Gaza Strip and as part of the disengagement plan, a neighborhood was established within the kibbutz for the evacuees. There in the kibbutz they lived, recovered from the trauma of disengagement, and after a few years set out to rebuild their lives.
In the same year, the “Eden” boarding school for girls aged 12-18 from around the country was also established on the kibbutz. The boarding school is located in the heart of the kibbutz in a “quiet and remote place that allows the girls a warm and enveloping setting.”
