The Kibbutz Neot Smadar Art Center provides self-guided or guided tours. The self-guided tour starts at the kibbutz’s gate and passes between the roses and vineyards serving as a canopy over the paths. You’ll be able to watch a short video describing the construction process of the picturesque building designed and built by the kibbutz artists. Then you can go up the cooling tower and see the smart construction that leaves the building cool in summer and warm in winter without the use of air conditioners.
Up at the tower you’ll see another video about the community and lifestyle in Kibbutz Neot Smadar. The tour concludes with a visit to the Artists’ gallery, where the works of the kibbutz artists are displayed. It is also worthwhile to incorporate a tour of the local winery.
On the guided tour, you’ll meet with the guide at the entrance to the Arts Center. Throughout the tour, the guide explains about the unique community life of art, social life and partnership.
The Art Center was designed and constructed by the people of Neot Semadar in a process that provided a real life experience of creativity and cooperation. For 15 years, this building was the main project in Neot Smadar, and the entire Kibbutz participated. Many techniques of architecture were studied and applied here: a special way of casting a mosaic floor, a technique of molding reliefs and sculptures in concrete, and the application of some desert construction principles, such as the passive air cooling tower.
