Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim is a religious kibbutz located in Gush Etzion in the West Bank and is famous, in terms of tourism, mainly for its annual all-you-can-eat cherry picking festival. How symbolic to celebrate the sweet red fruit in a kibbutz whose beginning was not so sweet and the red was mainly the blood of kibbutz members, some of whom were killed and others taken captive, when the Gush Etzion bloc fell in the War of Independence.
Rosh Tzurim was established immediately after the Six Day War on the ruins of another Kibbutz called Ein Tzurim and today the renewed kibbutz is home to about 200 families in a cohesive community engaged in, among other things, agriculture, a dairy farm, chicken coops, education and many charitable enterprises. In addition to the annual festival, there are a number of tourist attractions in the kibbutz that are worth getting to know.
In Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim you will find Pat Bamelach Bakery which is an artisan bakery established by a husband and wife team that offers, in addition to breads and pastries, bread preparation workshops with an educational twist. Another couple’s project in Kibbutz Rosh Tzurim is The Workshop – a creative studio where diverse creative workshops are held. You can also visit the Haguta gift shop where handmade gifts are offered by local artist Hagit Shechter.
